When installing and running MeasureJ2X in a Windows environment where a login is required, to have the program accessible to multiple logins without requiring each user of the program to register, it must be installed and registered using administrative privileges.  It is often not sufficient to install and register using a user account with administrative privileges because Windows 7 has a feature called 'User Account Control' (UAC) which, if enabled, causes all user accounts, including administrative accounts, to run with standard user rights. This is usually enabled in a Windows 7 Enterprise environment.

Thus, when UAC is enabled, one must do the following to ensure MeasureJ2X is installed and registered with full administrative rights:

* Right-click on MeasureJ2X.exe and select 'run as administrator'.  This will run the installer as the administrator.
* Right-click on MeasureJ2X.exe and select 'run as administrator'.  This will run the installer as the administrator.

Compatibility

MeasureJ2X will run under Windows 7, 32-bit or 64-bit version. When using a USB-serial adapter with Windows 7 64-bit, there need to be 64-bit drivers installed for the USB-Serial adapter. See USB-Serial Adapters for more information.

To be more precise, the underlying Java used to run MeasureJ2X (distributed by Oracle/Apple/Sun) is a 32-bit version, so MeasureJ2X will run in 32-bit mode under Windows 7 64-bit; the 32-bit mode is enabled by default in Windows 7 64-bit.

Windows 7 Enterprise and/or Logins

  • Right-click on MeasureJ2X.exe and select 'run as administrator'. This will run the installer as the administrator.
  • Once MeasureJ2X is installed, right-click the shortcut that is placed on the desktop and select 'run as administrator' and click on 'register' to enter the registration information and register MeasureJ2X.

At this point, any user should be able to log in and run MeasureJ2X without being prompted for registration information.
